Spirit Lake Elderly Center

Fort Totten, North Dakota

Construction of this new senior housing facility for the Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe occurred from July 2011 to April 2012. The facility is named the Norma Lambert Rainbow Memorial Home in honor of a tribal member who championed funding for its construction and contains 18 apartment units, a community/dining room, a central lounge/activity area, and support spaces. The 16,000-square-foot building was constructed on existing foundations that had been installed years earlier. The architect, DSGW Architects of St. Paul, MN, updated the design to reflect current codes and senior housing trends. The Tribe’s new facility provides a warm and welcoming home for elder residents on the reservation.
